  10. The FlodisXEN project commenced after I'd  downloaded lots of fonts from the
  11. Aminet - and other  relevant sites - in search  of a complete  collection of
  12. the various quotation  marks used in different languages. Unfortunately none
  13. was to  be found.
  14. Feeling dubious about their existence at all, I decided to modify the fixed-
  15. width, 9 points XEN font (from the MagicWB package) to suit my needs.
  16. Eventually I ended up,  not only with my own quotation mark interpretations,
  17. but also with a brand new "g" letter, which I hope you'll like.
  18. (German users will happily find  their special "double comma" quotation mark
  19. at ASCII code 184 - instead of the cedilla sign.)
  20. Moreover, I did the "æ" letter 5 pixels  wide, touched up the ASCII 183 (big
  21. dot), tidied the  171, 187 angle quotes and  decreased the 60, 62 "less/more
  22. than" signs so they can be used as quotes as well.

  24. Minor adjustements in this version:
  25. The combination lowercase-uppercase no longer clashes.
  26. Brackets and tilde now immersed.
  27. Brand new colon, semicolon, comma and quotation marks. They are smaller than
  28. the ungainly ones included in last version.
  29. ASCII 168 (diaeresis mark without vowel) turned into a quotation mark.

  31. There aren't  many  decent font editors on the  Aminet. "Typeface" (by David
  32. Kinder) doesn't let you draw and erase a font's individual pixels (only flip
  33. them  around);  "Font Editor"  (by Tim Robinson)  trashes  the  font  if you
  34. overwrite an existing file.
  35. My creative joy  faded a bit  when I realized that an archive I had uploaded
  36. contained corrupt files, destroyed by the latter editor. Embarrassing!
  37. But  that  was  before  I discovered  "Workbench Font Editor" (by Patrick F.
  38. Clark),  an excellent, intuitive application,  appropriate to font-concerned
  39. sundries - may it be the  production of a 50 pixels color font or solely the
  40. modification of ASCII code 255.
  41. It's a wonderful piece of non-commercial (remarkable!) software.

  43. Suitably, copy the stuff in the XEN drawer to your SYS:Fonts/XEN drawer.
  44. You must have the XEN font properly installed, since  FlodisXEN functions as
  45. a 9 points replacement only.

  47. If you use FlodisXEN, please let me know!  Without feedback, a cessation may
  48. affect the development and updates to the Aminet perhaps won't happen.

  51. don't  torment me with junky  e-mail inundations if your computer is burning
  52. or if you should feel an ardent devotion to FlodisXEN.

  54. Some text strings  (e.g. "qg") have very little  spacing, due  to the font's
  55. width  of merely 6 pixels. I don't want to increase it  and cause an overall
  56. impression of too airy gaps, so you'll have to live with that.

  58. Remember:  I'm not concealing  the fact that  I've got some  ideas  from the
  59. "AlexisMachine" font  (included in Malice/BRONX's  Aminet archive "MLC-Font"
  60. found in directory text/font), and the Wordworth font "DigitaSans."
